Thank you for choosing Torquay State School as your school of choice for your child's education. At our small school, every child is viewed as an individual, who has unique characteristics and needs. Your child will not be just another face in the crowd, - here, they will be known, supported and celebrated as an individual.
At Torquay State School, our school motto: Trying our best is the key to success, highlights our values of being courageous and having a go and being persistent in the face of life's challenges. We recognise that all students enter school with differing levels of academic, social and emotional development. This recognition highlights the importance of knowing the child, identifying barriers that may impact on learning and addressing these barriers together with families and community, to ensure each student becomes as successful as possible. This is how we create a supportive and inclusive community at Torquay State School.
We set high expectations for both students and staff in achieving academic excellence by understanding where the child is at and planning to ensure they progress from this point. We want to ensure our students finish primary school with strong
- literate foundations: the ability to read, write, speak and listen effectively, allowing them to communicate and understand the world.
- numerate foundations: the confidence and competence in using numbers to solve problems, analyse information and make informed decisions based on calculations.
Our aim is to deliver inclusive curriculum, teaching and learning within a safe, calm and connected community. This is achieved through the work of our teachers and teacher aides, but also through the work of our Student Services Support Team.'
Through the collaborative efforts of our teaching team, we focus on implementing multi-tiered systems of support for all learners across the areas of
- learning (academic)
- engagement (social behaviour) and
- wellbeing (emotional).
Multi-tiered systems of support are a proactive and preventative framework that uses information about a student's academic, social, behavioural and emotional learning, to make decisions about the next steps to support student learning through high quality instruction or intervention.
We are proud of the unique benefits that our small school can offer your child and look forward to developing a positive partnership with you and your family as we journey together in your child's education.
